MORTALITY SCHEDULES 1850 - 1880 |
The Mortality Schedules were taken 1850-1880, when the Federal census taker went door to door to do the Federal census. Supposedly, the people were those that died within the year of the censuses. However, I have found people that had died 1-3 years prior or, not listed at all.
Many names are mis-spelled and no attempts were made to correct them, as I strong believer to put it "as it is written". Also, some names were hard to read but we tried our best.
Each page contained 15 columns, of which most of them wre left blank. Therefore, I used the columns that contained the most information. Usually I used 7 of the 15 columns. If one is not listed that is because there was no entries for it.
I suggest you use this information as a 'door opener' or "guide". I know of a few people that are listed did not die withoin that census year but a few years prior. The year of death is NOT on the microfilms.
I got a lot of email asking about the surrounding counties and their Mortality Schedules. While cleaning my "packed boxes", I found many of the copies as far back as 1969. To get rid of the boxes and because of the requests, I decided to put what I have here. Many thanks to Karen and Tia for reading and transcribing microfilms for the counties I did not have in March, 1999.
Smiles!
