1850 MORTALITY SCHEDULE |
Dorothy wrote:
This is an unofficial listing of the people that died between 1 June
1849 and 31May, the census year, as collected by the census takers for
the first time. If a family moved away since a member died, the information
was given by a neighbor who still lived there, and although they guessed
their best, some deaths were probablyforgotTenn, others could be off a
few years in age, etc. Writing was difficult to transcribe, so as always,
check for several spellings. Spellings, ofTenn phonetically, were
left as writTenn on the microfilm.
Remarks by census enumerator: Timber Oake, Hickry, Elem, Line, Walnut, Red Bud. Veryes cinds of Timber all most. Minrel vry corse. Cole can Be found But very shalow vanes and very corse. This county is mosley prarry, very high and Rolen.
There were 11 columns on the page(s). One was 'Occupation' and everyone was listed as a 'farmer'. That column is not shown below nor are the columns that were left blank.
Last, there was no clue as to what “C” cause of death means. Neighboring counties had many deaths from cholera, but not as many as listed here. They also cited colds, croup, consumption, cramps, child birth, and congestive chills.
The enumerator was George J. Baltzell, Ass’t. Marshall.
