OBITUARY

Bob wrote the following:
...  this obituary is for Bathus C. Jones, who was my g-g-grandfather.    The Gus Jones mentioned in the obituary was my g-grandfather and is the same  Augustus C. Jones  who Laurel White entered an obit for.  In Augustus' bituary, the son Gussie is my grandfather, Batthews Augustus Jones. Laurel also has entered an obit for him.

Bathus' wife, Nancy Clark, was born in the Fairfield, IL. vicinity in 1819.  A number of Clark's were in the 1820 Wayne Co. census, but I have been unable to tie down which family she was from.

BATHUS JONES
ANOTHER OLD CITIZEN
GONE TO HIS REWARD

Bathus Jones, one of Wayne's oldest citizens, died at the home of his son, Gus Jones, on the old homestead west of Fairfield Wednesday evening of last week.
The funeral was preached at Victory Church on Friday at 11 o'clock by Rev. I. J. Turner of Johnsonville and the remains were laid to rest in Bovee Cemetery.

Mr. Jones came to Wayne County when he was a young man and shortly afterwards married Miss Nancy Clark, with whom he lived up to about three years ago, when Mrs. Jones died, since which time he has lived with his son, Gus.  Mr. Jones would have been 88 years old the 6th of next May, and so far as our knowledge goes there are only two parties older than Mr. Jones in the county, wiz: M. A. Tinker, of Bedford, and Dr. R. L. Boggs, of this city.

Mr. Jones had been feeble for several years, and for the past year or more he has  been almost blind and his memory was almost gone.  He had lived in the county for more than sixty years and was highly respected by all who knew him.
