AUGUSTUS.  C.  JONES

A. C. Jones, aged 76, died at 8:30 Thursday evening, July 12th.   A stroke of paralysis suffered two weeks ago was the cause of death. Mr. Jones resided in Wayne county all his life. He was the founder of the Jones Mercantile store in Sims and has long been known as a business man. He was a leader in that community and was greatly respected.

Two sons, Homer and Gussie of Sims and one daughter, Mrs. Robert Young of Fairfield, survive. His wife died ten years ago.

Augustus C. Jones, son of Bathus and Nancy (CLARK) Jones was born May 2, 1849, died at his home at Sims July 12, 1928, aged 79 years, 2 months, 10 days.  He was married to Nancy King March 29, 1868 who preceded him in death ten years ago.

To this union was born four children, Mrs. Cora Young of Fairfield, Ill.,  Luna Shumake, deceased, Gussie and Homer of Sims, Ill.  He also took his two grandchildren, Leslie and Edna Shumake and tenderly cared for them as his own, Edna having preceded him to death about ten years ago,   Leslie whom he made his home with until death. He was the last of his fathers family of seven children.

He leaves to mourn his departure three children, eleven grand-children, ten great grandchildren, an aged nephew and a host of other relatives and friends.

He professed faith in Christ about forty years ago in a meeting held at Victory church by Rev. Peter Prince and Cephus Young. He united with the Victory G. B. church and later he became a charter member of the Sims G. B. church and remained one of the most faithful members until death. He having been superintendent of Sunday School about forty years almost continuously, scarcely ever missing a Sunday. He was president of the Union Grove G. B. Sunday school convention and has been ever since it was organized nineteen years ago.

Gus or A. C. as he was commonly called was a very active man for his age always having a good word and hand shake for every body and always enjoyed life wherever he was at. He will be sadly missed in his home, church, Sunday school and community in which he lived. But to the bereaved ones we can say weep not as those who have no hope, he has gone to that home that Jesus said he had gone to prepare for those who love and serve him.

Funeral services were conducted at the G. B. church in Sims at 1:30 p. m. Sunday July 15th by Rev. I. J. Turner and Rev. Steve Shehorn in the presence of about one thousand people.

He was a well known merchant in Sims and has been in business for the past twenty six years which he made a success at as well as he did in his church work.

He has many relatives and friends who will sadly miss him every day in every way.
