John E. Fitch, 77, of Flora, former Elm River township farmer, passed away Wednesday night, May 17th, in a Flora hospital from ailments incident to his advance age.  He had been in failing health for some time and had made his home in Flora for the past two years.

Funeral services were conducted on Friday afternoon from the First Christian church in Flora.  Burial was in the Fitch cemetery, near Enterprise.

John Edward Fitch, son of Joseph and Mary Jane Fitch, was born in Wayne county on July __, 1874.

He was united in marriage to Alice Padgett and to this union twelve children were born.  He was preceded in death by one child, Leonora, who died in infancy.

Soon after his marriage he united with the Zif Christian church later transferring his membership to the Mt. Erie Christian church where he served as an elder for many years.

Surviving are his widow and the following children:  Mrs. Pearl Scheldon, California;  Mrs. Lulu Stubbs, Wyoming; Mrs. Geneva Hoff, Iowa;  Mrs. Maribelle Nicholson, Albion; Mrs. Maude Trousdale, Wayne City;  Mrs. Edna Haynes, Flora; Paul Fitch, Enterprise;  Joe Fitch, Lexington; Ruel Fitch, Cisne; John R. Fitch, Mt. Carmel; Glen Fitch, Geff; twenty-eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
