HISTORICAL  BOOKLET

1813 - 1963

source:  The Old Timers Booklet, History of Wayne County, IL
by the Wayne County Good Old Days, Inc.

I was about 16 when Grandma's cousin, Newt and Frank came by the homestead and asked for her help.  They were writing stories about the early days in Wayne City and area.  After the booklet was printed, they came to the homestead and gave her a copy for her help.  I do not know what happened to her booklet after her death.

For about 6 months I had contacted family members asking about the booklet.  Finally, one day I contacted Bettie Wheat and she had a copy.  She sent me a copy of her booklet and that night a cousin from Hamilton county came over with a copy, and two days later I got a third copy from another person that heard I was looking for a copy of the booklet and she had one.

I contacted the publisher, now Preston, and got his permission to put the booklet on this site.

The booklets are not displayed in the order as bounded but, by catagories.  There were itmes written on History of an area, Early Settlers of an area, and events/people to remember.  Each mentiones surnames as well as history.

Thank you Bettie, Ev, and Myrtle for sending me a copy.  Now this is displayed and I will donate one copy to each of my highly respected  libraries, all outside of Fairfield.

Thank you Preston for giving me permission to put this here.  Oops! I almost forgot Sue A!  Thanks Sue for proof reading all this and the hours of laughs!

Last, my thanks to the members of the Old Timers.  They took the time to write our history before they all crossed.  Without them, we may have forgotten or never got to know about the "Good Old Days".

Smiles!

Dianna
