(Q256)   31  Dec 2002 - Judith Horton

Surnames:  BLACK  HICKENBOTTOM  WHEELER

I am researching George C. BLACK, born Wayne Co., IL, c1839.

He is listed in the 1850 Federal Census with Louis/Loris and May/Mary BLACK, and two sisters. They are living next door to the FRANSIER/FRAZIERs, including William.

The 1860 Federal Census has George BLACK in Clay Co., Il, Flora Twnship, living with William and Martha FRAZIER. I have been unable to find his parents at this point.

1861, George married Sarah Jane HICKENBOTTOM. 1862, He joined the Illinois 124th Infantry, Co. K., and they had a son (Lewis Gideon BLACK). March 28, 1865, George died from wounds sustained in the Battle at Spanish
Fort, Mobile, AL.

Sarah Jane remarried in 1871 to Bradley WHEELER; I have much information on them.

I need to find George C. BLACK's final resting place, his parents in 1860 and prior to 1850 (Kentucky?), and his sisters.

(Q254)  09 Sep 2002 - K. Verdaine Hooper

Surnames:  HOOPER  KING  PHELPS  STOLTZ

On some research papers that I was given is a note that reads -
"George Newton Phelps md. 2nd, Mary L. STOLTZ d/o of F.A. KING and Susan HOOPER on 9 Nov 1888.

She was 38 and he was 33. This was the 2nd marriage for both."

I need a lot of help in finding out who F. A. KING is.

I do not see a KING by that name in the 1850 census.  I do not find a Mary KING either.  I believe that Susan HOOPER is the d/o Dempsey HOOPER who died
in 1834.  She would be the sister of Samuel, Wylie, and Rigdon HOOPER.

I believe that Mary L. HOOPER's first marriage was to Peter STOLTZ.  So, any and all help will be appreciated and I will swap information on any of these families with interested researchers.

Thanks, Verdaine

(Q251)  28 Aug 2002 - DARLENE  HALL

Surnames: CORLEE  McTHOMPSON ROSE  TROTTER

The above -mentioned names are my line of "mysteries", at least as far as their forebearers are concerned.  I have BF McThompson, Sr. b. 1833 in Allen County, Kentucky, m. Eda Rigers, but where are they buried?  I have Joseph Corlee m. to Jane Thomason, where did they come from? I have conflicting information on their birthplace. Charlotte Rose was the first wife of BF  McThompson, Sr. and mother of his first 3 children.  Who was she?  I do have a reference of a Charlotte Rose being divorced sometime before she m. BF, may not be the same women. !!?  Any information would be appreciated.

Darlene Hall,
from the flatlands of Kansas.
