This is a picture of Gilla Perry Wilhoit Simmons (14 SEP 1838 - 16 AUG 1928) and Isham Thompson Simmons (4 JUL 1832 - 15 MAR 1910).   On the back of the original was written "Preston's grandma and grandpa Simmons."  Part of the lower left corner of the original border is missing, the only legible printing is "H. Newton" (possibly the photographer) and in the lower right corner is "Fairfield, Ill."

I have Isham's pension record now.  He was on watch during the Civil War and set his gun down.  It accidently went off and he injured his thumb on his right hand.  The doctors had to amputate it.  If you look at the photo you can see Isham has no thumb on his right hand!
