HELM SCHOOL

We are pleased to present, courtesy of Beverly Jane (Himes) Barger, a photo of Mr. W. Cantrell's class of 42 students at Helm School in Wayne County, Illinois. This photo was taken on 6 October 1909. Note that the boys are barefoot in October. One hopes it was a mild fall! Most of these children were somehow related to Beverly's maternal grandmother, Janie Mae (Stogsdill) Marsh, then a nine year old child. She is the girl in the white pinafore in the second row, fourth from the left.
