Major and Tammy Garrett are Merriam School varsity cheerleaders.
Elmer (Red) Hutchcraft, county dog catcher,
gets an added title, as county rabies inspector.
Norman Massie is new president of the Wayne
County Fair, succeeding longtime chief, Frank Dixon.
Fairfield temperatures range from 32 to 69.
A 165 ton 10,000 hp motor, is headed for Trunkline
Gas at Johnsonville.
Carol Young is crowned as Fairfield High homecoming
queen.
A fire bug is suspected for some rural fires
north of Fairfield.
Mike Tickner, William G. Bennett, William
E. Hoffee, Milford Boyd, Preston Mathews, Everett Weaver, James Griffith,

Committee members voice Opposition to school
consolidation.
Cy's Ice Cream Shop has been selected as a
new Greyhound depot.
Fairfield plumber Ron Miller, of Miller &
Sons, is seriously burned in an accident at the plumbing firm. He sustained
third degree burns in the chest area and second degree burns about his
face.
Fairfield Lions Club members sold all but
55 of 1,000 bags of Halloween candy, collecting $1,900 from candy sales.
Bud Feather announces his candidacy for Sheriff,
seeking nomination from the Wayne County Democratic Party.
Jim Rose, well-known Fairfield man, was elected
president of the Fairfield Country Club. Nash New is vice president.
The 1985 fall harvest should bring in $43
million to Wayne County, estimates Extension Adviser Walt Townsend. Yields
are good, but prices are low, keeping the value well below harvest worth
over $60 million a few years ago.
A Sims man, Art Baker, about 72, is killed
in a single-vehicle accident when his pickup left the roadway, crossed
a ditch and hit a tree.
Oilfield worker George Walter Rankin, 34,
Fairfield, dies of an apparent heart attack. He was on his way home from
work when he collapsed.
Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Xanders celebrate their
60th wedding anniversary while Mr. and Mrs. Louis Talbert observe their
50th.
Lisa Meritt, FCHS senior, wins the girls golf
sectional, shooting an 82 on the 18-hole course in Belleville. She
moves to the state round.
Marty Slover is a new seventh and eighth grade
teacher at Sims Grade School. He will also coach.

A shrinking tax base faces Wayne County's schools
it cost the schools well over $6 million in equalized assessed valuation.
A rural Ellery woman, Dena Moore was critically
hurt when her car Collided with a two-ton truck. Her condition at an Evansville
hospital has been Upgraded to serious.
A ladies group at the Ellen Moore United Methodist
Church has asked the city to approve a list of restrictive recommendations
governing trick-or-treating this
Misty Richards, 16, is the first contestant
to sign up for the Lions Club's Miss Fairfield pageant.
A group of Fairfield area educators are still
exploring the possibility of forming a Fairfield unit education district.
Sammie Matthews, 74, retired Fairfield farmer,
dies just three weeks after his wife, Colena, was killed in a car crash.
The Fairfield Mules squeak by Lawrenceville,
9-7. Chris Foley rushed for 100 yards.
The Cross Country Mules finish fourth in the
NEC while the girls tennis team clinch an 8-4 record - their best ever.
Lisa Meritt takes sixth in the state girls
golf match. She fired an 87 to place high among the 99 competitors.
