     Republicans win two offices in Wayne County although Democrats sweep to victory, as Kennedy beats Nixon for President and Otto Kerner beats William G. Stratton for Governor of Illinois. James Wilson is elected circuit clerk here for the Republicans and Willard Pearce, Republican is elected states attorney.  Robert McNeill, a Democrat, is elected coroner . . . The Press Editor T. O. Mathews, loses his bid for a post as a University of Illinois trustee. Democrats are elected . . . A new gas line is put in the Keith Parkview addition . . . An infant son born to Mr. and Mrs. Edmund Pontiua dies . . . Miss Martha Lou Whitson is again readying Christmas seals for mailing . . . The Airtex strike is now in its 40th day . . . S. O. Dale leads a four man race for state representative from this district . . . Guy Neff buys the old Rinard school building for $650 . . .      Republicans sweep the election in Wayne County - Harry Austin as coroner; Thomas Cannon Jr., as sheriff; Jack Copeland as county clerk; Albert Miller, county supt. of schools; Dorothy McKelvy as county treasurer; and State Rep. Ben Blades, tops in the House race.
     As many as 20 foreign students at SIU Carbondale will spend the Thanksgiving weekend in Fairfield homes.
     Mrs. Will Knodell is a patient at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville for tests.
     Fairfield temperatures range from 31 to 54.
     State Rep. Les Jones, of Flora, well-known here, loses his bid for re-election.
     Congressman Ken Gray wins easy re-election to the U.S. House and carried Wayne County.
     Terry Bruce, of Olney, wins the state for State Senator of this district, defeating George Woodcock Republican, of Mt. Carmel.
     The Village of Cisne buys acreage for a sewage plant expansion.
     D-X gas station here and elsewhere now use the name Sunoco.
     Fairfield will seek federal and state grants for improving the city's sewage treatment system.
     The Fairfield Christmas parade will be Nov. 27. Santa will put in an appearance that day.
     Bro. Carroll Kakac, from Shelbina Mo., will preach a trial sermon at the Fairfield First Christian Church.
     Alonzo Withrow suffers a blackout at Edna White's junkyard.
     Congressman George Shipley, of Olney, wins his seventh term in Congress from the 23rd District.

    Mrs. Ernie Rightmyer, 75, dies after a prolonged illness.
     Mr. and Mrs.  James A. Mathews, of Fairfield, observe their 50th wedding anniversary.
     The Mulies frosh bomb Albion, 76 to 0. Mike Newby scores eight touchdowns.
     Mrs.  John Holmes wins the grand prize, a new TV set, in the Fairfield Retail Merchants Treasure Chest Days promotion.
     Bro. Carroll Kakac is called as new pastor of the Fairfield First Christian Church.
     Mrs. Tom Bishop falls and dislocates her arm.
     Harry Lee will lease the Davis Ashland service station.
     Louie Hughes will end his trailer court operation on East Delaware Street.
     The Fairfield C of C has a new brochure putting Fairfield's best foot forward.
     There is Heat Treat fire damage at Airtex.
     Four Wayne County young men leave for induction into the U.S. Army.
     Dick Bestow falls from his hospital bed at the home of his mother, Mrs. Lynn Betow, and fractures his hip.
     Rev. L. D. Patrick, pastor of North Side Baptist Church, accepts a pastorate at Waukegan.
     Fairfield temps range from 33 to 67.
     Marriage licenses: Dale Ray Gill and Brenda Lavon Clevenger; David Eugene Hutchens and Janice Lee Williams.
     The Press reports some stores will be open and some closed for Veteran's
     The Huckleberries is named top Ag 4-H club and the Geff Chatters, top Home Ec club.

     The city of Fairfield's water supply is being seriously threatened by saltwater pollution entering the Little Wabash in the Elm River Township area.  An investigation is underway.
     Phyllis Simpson is injured when struck by a car on a city street.
     Over 100 are expected to walk for the American Heart Fund.
     Fairfield Cable TV is surveying its customers to learn more about their viewing habits.
     Wayne County voters reject two road tax hike proposals, by a two to one margin.
     Only 3,000 persons bother to vote in school board elections in Wayne County.
Dr. Marcus Brown, Carroll Courtright, Fred Smith and Sherrill Staley win re-election to the FCHS board.
     Jim Tyler 30, of Fairfield, is moved to an Evansville hospital after suffering a massive heart attack.
     Lane Harvey is resigning from the Harvey, Fyie & Hawkins law firm. He will establish his own practice.
     The Fairfield Medical Center is negotiating sale of that center to the Weber Medical Clinic out of Olney.
     Fairfield temps range from 31 to 62.
     James Coale, parade chairman, appeals for more entries for the Christmas parade in Fairfield.
     Fairfield Memorial Hospital will conduct an open house this weekend.
     James Coale is new president of the Fairfield Gun Club.

     Cisne High homecoming king and queen candidates are Julie Harrington, Traci Ellis and Connie Bailey, John Winter, Bill Elliott and Darrin Atteberry.
     A Fairfield minister asks the Fairfield High school to move its sports banquets from the Elks Club.
     A four-county committee is studying school consolidations in that four-county area.
     The Carl Atteberry trailer home south of Boyleston is destroyed by fire.
     The county board votes to increase salaries of three elected county officials and one appointed official to $18,000 a year.
     Fairfield temps range from 36 to 73.
     That turkey Walk for Heart nets $3500.
     Elmer Allen, 91, of Wayne City, dies at home.
     Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Wilkerson, of Wayne City, are wed fifty years.
     Mr. and Mrs. Dale Yohe, of Mt. Erie are wed sixty years.
     The Gamma Chi sorority is providing free books to area schools.
     Marc Murphy is named to the NEC All Conference football team.
     Fairfield ranks fifth among ten area towns and cities in retail sales.
     Bill Atwood heads the Cisne Chamber of Commerce.
