The number of farms in Wayne County is 3,042, down from 3,452 in 1935, according to a new agricultural census . . . Lt. Lowell Schurr, son of Mr. and Mrs. W. L. Schurr, of Enterprise. is reported missing in action over Bornes . . . A new $250,000 structure is planned by the Chefford (Airtex) Company, on a 13 acre site in southwest Fairfield . . . Council . . . A $750,000 project to double the city light plant output
is under study by the Fairfield city council.

Five slot machines seized by officers
in a raid against a Fairfield club will be destroyed by court order.
Fairfield temperatures range from 59

New "Fairfield Welcomes You" signs are being
erected at entrances to Fairfield. The Chamber of Commerce is putting up
the signs.
The Fairfield Jaycees seek entries for their
annual Soap Box Derby.
Fairfield Memorial Hospital will gain $10,000
or more in a bequest from the late Grace Borah estate.
A new engineering firm, B & R Surveyors
and Engineers, is locating in Fairfield.
The state approves stop lights for the Fairfield
National Bank corner at Main and East Third.
Rebecca Burris gets the top bass catch in
a contest sponsored by the Hills Sporting Goods store.
Mrs. Jerry Musgrave is named manager of My
Fair Lady Beauty Salon.
A Fairfield youth is ticketed for throwing
eggs in the city park swimming
A. B. Lambrich oil well near Enterprise comes
in a 65 barrels of oil a day.
A farm chemical spray unit is blamed for a
foggy condition which halts traffic on Rt. 45, near Cisne.
Food Park advertises tomatoes at 29 cents
a pound.
Wayne-White Electric Coop awards a Carmi firm
a $331,000 contract for a new 19 mile transmission line in the Enfield
Crossville area.

Mr. and Mrs. Weldon Hubble of Jasper Township
are observing their 50th wedding anniversary.
Gene Johnson and Kenneth Sledge manage a Wayne
City softball team to a first place win in a tournament at Mt. Vernon.
Three new FCHS teachers are hired. Pictures
of Tom Tucker and wife, Janice Tucker, are pictured. Roger Jamison is a
new science teacher.
1300 people pack the fair grandstand for an
opening evangelistic program.
Fairfield temperatures range from 57 to 90.
County and city police will share eight new
emergency radio units, supplied by the state.
Adlai E. Stevenson II, the Democratic candidate
for U. S. Senator. is coming to the Wayne County Fair.
Lloyd Rose is a new sub clerk at the Fairfield
Post Office.
The money bag stolen recently from Eckleberry
Standard Service Station is recovered in the Leo French Park lake.
Gary Locke is attending state trooper school
in Springfield.
The 300 deer quota for Wayne County has been
filled, the state says.
Rep. Ben Blades, Clyde Robbins, Jack Copeland,
Tommy Cannon, Bill Hoffee, Bernard Berg, Leslie Scarbrough and Charles
Kanady attend the State GOP convention in Peoria.
Mrs. Elva Simpson dies at age 73.
Key Market advertises center cut pork chops

Ted Davis is named Frontier College's new Dean of
Instruction and LaVonna Bryant is named the college's administrative assistant.
Don Donnay moves from a Frontier post to Dean of Olney Central College.
A gift package is proposed to be issued to
Fairfield newcomers. The Fairfield B & P W Club is spearheading the
project.
John Daubs, the city's garbage contractor,
says he needs more room, with space running out at his present landfill
southeast of Fairfield.
Walter J. Horner, Jr., from La Grange, is
new owner of the B & B Tavern at the Sims crossroads. It is renamed
as the Teepee Lounge.
Fair gate and grandstand receipts are up sharply
for this week's county CHPSI will hold hearings
on a Fairfield Memorial Hospital plan to convert 29 acute care beds to
23 skilled care beds.
The Press will publish a special section Monday
on the 50th anniversary for Airtex Products in Fairfield.
A Soil District conservation airlift is carded
for this weekend.
Kenton Lingafelter, 77, of Fairfield,
dies.
Gary Carter is installed as new president
of the Fairfield Lions Club.
The Danny Harrisons have a new baby girl.

honoring Airtex Products, the city's largest industry, on its 50th anniversary.
Matt Kinney has the grand champion steer at
the 4-H fair show. Stephen Sork had the grand champion wether.
Wayne County farmers, needing rain get a good
one but are ready for more.
There's a big crowd downtown for the annual
Fairfield Sidewalk Day Sale.
Twelve girls will seek the Miss Cisne Reunion
crown. They are Traci Ellis, Roxanne Rahn, Melanie Walker, Sandi Mix, Cherie
Rapp, Janie Endsley, Gina Young, Brenda Milner, Renee Schwarzlose, Tammra
Obrecht, Kirn Lowe and Patti Howard.
A blue grass country music show will be held
this weekend at French Park.
The Cisne State Park will hold open house
to show off its half million dollar facelift.
Fairfield temperatures range from 57 to 91.
The county fair total income from gate and
grandstand fees came to over $12,000, nearly $700 above a year ago.
The eighth annual Corn and Soybean Field Day
at Almo Farms south of Wayne City, will not be held this year
County tax bills will be mailed out around
Aug. 15 this year.
William Pierce McNeely, 82, dies at his home.
He was a retired Geff farmer.
Mrs. Harry (Hap) Baker dies at Memorial Hospital.
