Eldon Simpson is elected new president of the
Wayne County Senior Citizens organization, succeeding Charles Fishel.
Hamrnack's Studio is seeking pictures of former
Fairfield mayors.
A state $70,000 grant. double that of last
year, is announced for the handicapped program of the Wayne County Association
for Retarded Children.
Becky Vaughan, Vickie Miles, Terry Musgrave
and Teresa Wilson are named as the county's 4-H models to model at state
fair. Patty Mayhue and Carole Ann Young are alternates, along with Cheryl
Green and Angie Fry.
The Press lists programs planned for this
year's Cisne Reunion, which opens Aug. 19. It will open with a Church Day
program.
The Wayne County Soil & Water Conservation
District will hold its second conservation airlift to be held at the Fairfield
airport on Tuesday.
Fairfield temperatures range from 68 to 91.
Marriage licenses: Marvin D. Fry and Garnetta
Carlean McCormick; Robert Herbert Burroughs and Anna Elizabeth Windland.
The Wayne County board of tax review has gotten
only 60 complaints this summer, about half the normal number. Everett Kittle
is board chairman, with Walter R. Davis and Arthur Wood as members.
Mrs. Leonard Morris, Mrs. Bill Worley and
Mrs. Guy Fearn judge exhibits at the fair in Olney.
Mr. and Mrs. Bill Trotter are improving from
accident injuries at Fairfield Memorial Hospital.
Leslie Pappas, of Cambria, who has pastored
the Hurst Baptist Church for five years takes a pastorate at Crab Orchard.
Mr. and Mrs. Herman Baumgarten attend a district
Eagles meeting in Eldorado.

Attorneys for Clarence Eugene Wilson ask that he beheld
at the jail in Crawford County and allowed more family visits. He is charged
with murder there but the court has ordered the trial be held in Fairfield.
Mr. and Mrs. Charles Harl, Jr., Rt. 2, Fairfield,
have a new baby son.
Mr. and Mrs. Butch Hedrick, of Mt. Erie, have
a new baby son.
A Springerton soldier, SP/4 Steve Lee Inboden,
formerly missing in action, has been declared killed in action June 30
in South Vietnam.
Mr. and Mrs. John Veatch observe their golden
wedding anniversary.
Brad Worley has a grand champion female at
the county 4-H fair livestock competition.
The Press has a page of pictures of the English
minister, Rev. Paul Hardy, who is preaching for several weeks at Fairfield
First Methodist Church. Rev. Robert Krause, Methodist pastor here, is in
Rev. Hardy's pulpit in England.
The Fairfield fire department is sending out
sign-up notices for rural families. The number in the plan is reported
to be down.
A group of young people present an all-musical
show at the city park bandshell.
The City of Fairfield gets its 11th Pedestrian
Safety Achievement Award.
Bi-State Express here is being acquired by
J. W. Ward Transfer of Murphysboro.
Fairfield temps range from 61 to 95.
Harold Gibbs, of Clay City, is re-elected
president of the Elm River Chowder.

David L. Rodgers, 20, of Cisne, is killed in
a highway accident at the edge of Flora. He was on a motorcycle and crashed
into the wreckage of an earlier highway accident.
Bruce Gualdoni announces plans for a new building
to replace a burned out insurance office facility.
A Battle of the Bands is planned for Wayne
County fair entertainment.
An estimated 600 students will be attending
Fairfield High this fall, with Aug. 22 set for opening of classes.
A 30-day grace period for Illinois motorists
to wear their seat belt is up and use of seat belts is now required.
Four incumbents have taken out petitions for
re-election to the FCHS board-Carroll Courtright, Fred Smith, Sherrill
Staley and Dr. Marcus Brown. Janice Schroeder and Ron Weedon also have
petitions out for the FCHS Board.
Fairfield temps range from 63 to 89.
Mitch Fenton narrowly escapes his burning
home northeast of Fairfield.

Construction is set to start on a new Best
Western Motel at the Grayville exit of I-64.
The Cancer Society is conducting a Jail or
Bail fundraiser in downtown Fairfield.
Mrs. Dorothy Meritt is a new Fairfield police
dispatcher.
Fairfield temperatures range from 57 to 84.
Eddie Hurd, president of the Elm River Chowder,
names his top committees for this year's chowder.
Montgomery Ward is closing its catalog store
in Fairfield.
Steve Wheeler, 31, Fairfield oil worker, is
critically injured in an oilfield accident.
King Street is being widened in the Fairfield
High School area
Robert H. Smith, 67, Fairfield police dispatcher,
dies following a stroke.
Glen Zimmerman, 81, former Zif Township assessor
and retired teacher, dies at the Flora hospital.
The village of Geff applies for a $190,000
grant to upgrade its water system.
Seth Flexter and Andrea Harrell are crowned
king and queen at the Johnsonville Community Days celebration.
