Joe and Mary Hillegeist of Fairfield will observe their golden wedding anniversary Jan. 12.

Joe and Mary (Stewart) were married in Lamard Township at the home of Rev.  John Sanford on Jan. 12, 1946.  Standing up with the couple were Bob Lane and Naomi (Reed) Clevenger.

Mary is the daughter of Mary Stewart of Fairfield and the late John Stewart.  Joe's parents are the late Lonzo and Inah Hillegeist of the Geff area.

Joe worked for approximately 25 years as an overseas offshore driller. He and Mary traveled extensively throughout the country until he retired in 1981.

They moved from the Geff area in 1950 to Kansas, and returned to Wayne County in 1972 where Joe is still farming.

Joe and Mary have two daughters, five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren are also included m the family.   A daughter, Brenda Ann, died as an infant.

The public is invited to an open house on Saturday, Jan. 13, from 12-4 p.m. at Joe and Mary's home on Rt. 2, Fairfield. Please omit gifts but cards would be
