WAYNE CO., IL WWII MEN KILLED IN ACTION ARTICLES and PHOTOS |
Lester L. BOSWELL
Staff Sergeant Lester L. (Pete) Boswell, 26, son of Mr. and Mrs.
Oran Boswell, five miles south of Wayne City, was killed in action
in North Africa on April 23rd, according to word received by his parents.
Young Boswell enlisted in the Army on October 14, 1940, and was stationed at Fort Bragg, North Carolina until October 13, 1942, when he was sent to Africa,where he took part in the invasion of the continent on November 7. Sgt. Boswell on January 10, 1942, while home on furlough, was married to Miss. Maxine Draper, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Draper, who survives. They had no children. Before entering the service he was employed at the Roth Dairy Co. in Mt. Vernon. In arecent letter to his parents he stated, "Africa is not such abad place, but it is not like United States. I am keepingmy courage high and will be home some day" Mr. and Mrs. Boswell have one other child a daughter, fourteen years old. |
