November 5, 1882 --Entered the service on May 19, 1864, as private in company C of the 136 regiment of Illinois. Discharged at Springfield, Illinois on October 22, 1864, because of expiration of term of service. He is 37 years old, 5 feet 8 & 1/2 inches tall, light complexion, dark hair, blue eyes. That in line of duty at Columbus, KY abt August or Sept 1864 he contracted disease of lungs and eyes from exposure.
May 12, 1883 ----For five years immediately preceding my enlistment into the service of the United States on the 19th day of May 1864, I resided in Wayne Co., Illinois and my Post-Office address was Pin Oak. My occupation was a farmer and since my discharge from said service on the 22nd day of October 1864 I have resided near Pin Oak, Wayne Co., Illinois, from whence I removed in the year of 1878 to Logan, Phillips Co., Kansas, from which place I removed in the year of 1880 to near Pin Oak, Wayne Co., Illinois.
I suffer from weak & sore eyes and disease of lungs which I contracted about the last of August or the first of September 1864 at Columbus, Kentucky caused by exposure.
July 12, 1890 --Jesse D. Whitson, resident of Logan, Phillips Co., KS, age 47, applying for a pension with same information as above.
August 3, 1899 -- Sarah J. Whitson, age 45, resident of Ann, Douglas
Co., Missouri, widow of Jesse D. Whitson who enlisted at Fairfield IL on
May 19, 1864, in C 136 Illinois Volunteers , discharged October 22, 1864,
died July 11, 1899. She was married under the name of Sarah J.
Williams on December 25, 1873, by R. L. Gastan at Cincinnati, Illinois.

A lot of the writing was hard to read. I believe he must have
died in Douglas Co., Missouri as she filed for a widow's pension a month
after he died and was living in Douglas Co., Missouri.
