State of Arkansas,
County of Conway.
On this 23 day of July, A.D. one thousand eight hundred and seventy nine personally appeared before me, W. F. Conlee Circuit Clerk, the same being a court of record within and for the county and State aforesaid, Mary A. Martin aged 57 years, a resident of Conway Co., in the State of Arkansas, who being duly sworn according to law, declares that she is a widow of OWEN MARTIN deceased, who was the identical OWEN MARTIN who served under the name of Owen Martin as a private in the company commanded by Captain Jobe Glover, in the regiment of ____, commanded by Col Ewens in the war of 1812; that her said husband volunteered at Barren Co., Ky on or about the 18 day of Sept, A.D. 1812, for the term of 60 days, and continued in actual service in said war for the term of 40 or 45 days and whose services terminated by reason of honorable discharge at Wabash river Indiana on the 18th day of October, A.D. 1812. She further states that the following is a full description of her said husband at the time of his enlistment, viz Born in the State of Virginia Halifax Co. March 11 1792, dark complexion, dark hair, black eyes, 6 feet high occupation Farmer. She further states that she was married to the said OWEN MARTIN in the county of Searcy and in the state of Arkansas, on the 9th day of Nov A.D. 1840, by one JOHN SANDERS who was a Justice of the Peace and that her name before her said marriage was MARY A. SMITH, and that she has not remarried since the death of the said soldier; and she further states that Owen Martin had been married to SARAH SMITH died in Illinois in 1836 and that her said husband Owen Martin, died at Griffin Township, in the State of Arkansas County of Conway on the 1 day of July, A.D. 1878; and she further declares that the following have been the places of residence of herself and her said husband since the date of his discharge from the Army, viz; Searcy County Ark., 6 years; State of Louisiana 2 years; Hot Springs Co., Ark 9 years; Pike Co., Ar. 4 years, Conway Co., Ark 18 years. Resident: Griffin Twp., Co. of Conway, State of Arkansas, PO address Glass Village, Conway Co., Ark.

Also personally appeared Nathan Martin aged 66 years residing at Conway Co., Arkansas and George W. Jackson, aged 41 years residing at Conway County, Arkansas persons whom I certify to be respectable and entitled to credit and who being by me duly sworn, say that they have known the said Mary A. Martin for 19 years and for 25 years, respectively; that they were present and saw her make her mark to the foregoing declaration; that they have every reason to believe from the appearance of said claimant and their acquaintance with her, that she is the identical person she represents herself to be and they further say that they are able to identify her as the person who was the wife of the identical Owen Martin who _____the regiment of Col. Ewens, in the war of 1812 by the following named facts and circumstances viz; Because we lived near each other and know that they lived together as husband and wife.

"This is to certify that I, G. R. Reynolds, a Justice of the peace in the state of Arkansas county of Conway Griffin Township has scanned the record of Owen Martin family bible and find its contents to be genuine of Marriages Births and deaths this September the 18 day 1879.

Filed by Mary Ann Martin, widow of Owen states that he was married previously to Sarah Smith in Barren Co., Ky and she died in Illinois in 1836, data from family Bible published 1829.

Stating E. M. Thomas aged 53, a resident of Griffin Twp, Pope County, State of Arkansas and G. W. Jackson age 41, a resident of Griffin Twp., county of Conway, State of Arkansas signed an affidavit stating they had been acquainted with Owen Martin and Mary Martin his wife for 25 or 26 years, had lived neighbors to them and had frequently been about their house and they live near Mary A. Martin and that Owen Martin died July 1st 1878 was present when he died helped bury him and know that the said Mary A. Martin has not remarried. since the death of her said husband Owen Martin.

Mary A. Martin widow of Owen Martin, dec'd, a resident of Griffin Twp, Conway Co., Ar. Mary A. Martin states "that the record of the Family has been recorded in the Family Bible that I have been in possession of the bible since the death of Owen Martin my husband and that Owen Martin entered the records in said Bible of marriages births and deaths and that the date of the Bible is 1829." The magistrate that married Owen Martin and Mary A. Martin is dead and the Records of Searcy County was burned during the war 1863. "Owen Martin is on file there for he drawn a land warrant for land and it can be seen if they will look the paper over."

30 Mar 1882.
Mary Ann Martin aged 60 years of Conway Co., Ar. states that her husband Owen Martin had served as a Private in the company commanded by Capt. Glover in the Ky Militia regiment of Volunteers, commanded by Col Ewen in the war of 1812; that her husband volunteered at Barren Co., Kentucky and was honorably discharged at Wabash, Indiana;. Described her husband as born 11 Mar 1793, Farmer born Halifax Co., Va; 6 ft 1 inches high, black hair, black eyes, dark complexion. She married Owen Martin in the County of Searcy, Ar. on 9 Nov 1840 by John Sanders, JP. Her name prior to marriage was Mary Ann Smith. Her husband, Owen Martin had been previously married to Sallie Smith who died several years before second marriage without issue in Illinois somewhere.

Bounty Land #3335548; 31 May 1883; Mary A. Martin, widow of Owen Martin. E. M. Thomas, JP aged 56 years PO Box Appleton, Pope Co., Ar.; residence 1 Jan 1861 to 9 May 1865 was Glass Village Conway Co., Ar. E. M. Thomas states that he has been acquainted with Owen Martin and his widow for about 30 years and know that he opposed secession in all its forms and that he never aided or abetted the Confederate Government and that he never held any office under the Confederate government.

George W. Jackson states he has known Owen Martin for about 28 years - similar statements as above.
