The following is a copy of an old letter, by the late George
L. Childress, Co L 66th Ill. Veteran Volunteers, father of the
Press editor, written June 3, 1864, telling his sisters of the death of
the writer's brother, William Childress, who was fatally wounded in the
Atlanta campaign in the civil war. The letter, now in the possession
of the Press editor, is highly prized:
