ELIZABETH CREWS. Among the most prominent and worthy matrons with which the past generation has favored the present, may be justly mentioned the one of thom we are now writing, familiarly known as "Aunt Betsey Crews." Although more than fourscore years have winged their unceasing flight in the past since her advent into the world, she is remarkably well preserved mentally and physically, remembering events of the past with a certainty that is truly wonderful.
Elizabeth, the wife of Matthew Crews, and daughter of William and Tabitha (Crews) Owen, was born January 25, 1801, in Halifax County, Va.; removed with her parents to Barren County, Ky in 1807, and was married August 19, 1828, and came to Massillon Township, Wayne County, Ill., in 1829.
William, the son of David Owen was born in Halifax County, Va., and served as a soldier in the army of the Revolutionary war. He married Tabitha, daughter of Richard and Sarah (Owen) Crews, to whom were born
William's brothers were John, Walter, James and Jesse.
