Dr. J. M. Bramson

1884 Biographical Sketches of Four Mile Twp

Dr. J.M. BRAMSON, physician, Wayne City, was born July 3, 1836, in Warren County, KY.

He is a son of Hezekiah Bramson, a native of Virginia, and a farmer and shoe-maker by occupation. He came here in 1838, and settled in marion County, IL. He died at Tamaroa, IL.

His father was Briscoe D. Bramson, of Scotch descent.

The mother of our subject was Emeline (Baily) Bramson, a native of Kentucky where she died. She was a daughter of David and Martha (Baily) Baily, and is the mother of six children, two of whom are now living - Martha W. Walker and James M., our subject, who was educated in New York and Illinois, but who received his medical education in St. Louis, Mo., and Cincinnati, Ohio.

The Doctor has traveled and followed his profession in different States, as Iowa, Kentucky and Illinois. He came to Wayne County, IL, in 1876, and practiced five years in Johnsonville, after which he went to Kentucky, but finally returned to this State, and in the spring of 1882 came to Wayne City, where he now resides and has succeeded in building up an extensive and lucrative practice, enjoying the esteem and confidence of the people.

Dr. Bramson was married, April 4, 1860, in Franklin County, IL, to Miss Sarah A. Harper, born December 22, 1842, in Tennessee. She is a daughter of Alfred and Mary A. Carter (Harper).

Mrs. Dr. Bramson is the mother of six children -

  1. Marinda E., born May 11, 1861
  2. Lilburn H., born September 12, 1865
  3. Bertha S., born October 12, 1867
  4. Laura A., born November 23, 1869
  5. Martha L., born June 29, 1982
  6. Clyde M., deceased

Mrs. Dr. Bramson is connected with the Methodist Episcopal Church.

Dr. Bramson is a member of the I.O.O.F., the Grange and the G.A.R. The Doctor also served in our late war.  He enlisted in the fall of 1861, and served thirteen months in the Sixth Illinois Volunteer Valvary, Company D; held the position of Sergeant, and participated in different calvalry engagements.
