Death
of Rev. Bratton
Rev. Walter I. Bratton,
65, of Flora, former resident of Johnsonville and Fairfield, died in
the hospital at Alton Saturday evening. He had been in
failing health
a long time.
Funeral services were held Monday
afternoon at the Wesley chapel church by Rev. Jesse Miller, assisted by
Rev. L.B. Howard.
Burial was in the church cemetery.
Walter Ira, son of Joseph
and Jane Bratton, was born at Johnsonville, August 17, 1883.
The greater part of his life was spent in and near the vicinity of his
birth.
He was united in marriage with Iona
Spicer, February 17,
1908. Twelve children were born to this union, three of
whom died in infancy, one daughter, Verla
Walker, also passed away,
August 13, 1948.
In early life he professed faith in Christ and served his Lord
faithfully as a minister of the Gospel until his health failed.
He is survived by his faithful companion, seven sons, Chlorus of
northern Illinois, Stanley of
Cisne, Cecil, Olan and Donald of Flora,
Lowell of Louisville and Jesse of Flat Rock, two daughters, Erma and
Leona of Flora, an aged
stepmother, Dora Bratton of Johnsonville, three brothers, Otho and Harvey of Cisne and Herbert of Carmi, one sister, Cleo of Greenville.
