JOHN G. JONES
was born in Tyrone county, Ireland, on July 3rd, 1823, died Nov. 19, 1902, aged 79 years, 4 months, 16 days. Mr. Jones was one of the early settlers, coming from Ireland at the age of 17 years, landing in New York, and there married his first wife, Sarah McHarg. To this union were born seven children, of which five are still living. His first wife died in 1867, and in 1871 he was married to Elizabeth Owen, of Owensville, Ky. To this union were born two children, of which both are still living, and in 1888, he was married to his present wife, Millie Kess [sic], and to that union were born four children, of which two are still living.
Mr. Jones was an honest, hard working man. Coming to this state in 1859, he settled near his present home, which was at that time all heavy timbered land, but by his untiring labor the forest gave way to what is now a productive farm.
His remains were interred in the Brown Cemetery, followed by the family and a number of sympathizing friends. How sweet the hours of closing, When all is perfect and serene. And when the sun with cloudless ray, Sheds mellow luster o'er the scene. W.H.
