AGED RESIDENT OF CISNE PASSES AWAY

Conrad Kern an aged and highly respected resident of Cisne passed away at his home Sunday evening about nine-thirty o’clock. He has always enjoyed good health and for one of his age was unusually rugged and strong. Being of an energetic and industrious disposition he was always busy about his work. For the past few weeks his health had not been as good as usual but his condition was not in any way alarming to his family. Shortly after retiring Saturday evening he was stricken with apoplexy and although everything that loving hands and care could do was done there was little hope for his recovery. He never regained consciousness and after almost twenty-four hours of intense suffering death came to relieve.

Funeral services were held from the home Tuesday afternoon at two o’clock. Interment was in the Cisne cemetery.

CONRAD KERN Conrad, son of Leonard and Catheryn Kern was born near Berlin, Germany, October 13, 1843. He came with his parents to America in 1847. The family located near Carmi where they made their home for some time, later they removed to Wayne County and located near Enterprise. He removed with his family to Cisne in 1900 where he has made his home from that time.

He was united in marriage with Alice McClure, August 5th., 1876. Eight children were born to this union, two having died in infancy. Mr. Kern has always been active and energetic. Most of his life has been spent in saw-mill and carpenter work. He always attended to his own affairs and was concerned about the welfare of his family and was highly respected by all who knew him. His death came, following a few hours of intense suffering from an attack of apoplexy, at his home Sunday evening, January 13th., 1929, aged eighty-five years and three months.

He is survived by his faithful companion, two sons, Conrad Jr., of Gilbert, Arkansas, and Royal E. of Cisne; four daughters, Mrs. Ora Stopher of Cisne, Mrs. Catheryn Brock of Fairfield, Mrs. Emma Rainey of Columbus, Ohio, and Mrs. Alma Rogers of Detroit, Mich; 13 grandchildren and other relatives and a host of friends who will mourn his passing.
