Noel Clark Whalen, 72, of Lodi (CA) died Oct 30 at his residence following a sudden illness. He was born April 4, 1924 in Bluford, IL.

Mr. Whalen was raised and schooled in Bluford. He later served for 20 years in the U.S. Army, and was honorably discharged in 1964.

He married Doris Leona Davis in 1949, and the couple lived in various locations during his military career. They later settled in Romeoville, IL.

Mr. Whalen was employed with General Motors for 24 years before retiring. The couple moved to Lodi in 1988.

He was a member of the Jefferson Masonic Lodge No. 368, the F. & A.M., and the National Rifle Assocation. He ws an avid fisherman and enjoyed woodworking.

Mr. Whalen was preceded in death by his wife, Doris (Davis) Whalen, in August 1996; andn two brothers, Howard and Glen Whalen.

Mr. Whalen is survived by a daughter, Sandra Bauer of Morgan Hill; a son, Gary Whalen of Illinois; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Services and committal are private. Visitation is 9 am to 8 pm Saturday with family receiving friends from 5 to 8 pm at Lodi Funeral Home.
