Buried in Maple Hill Cemetery with his wife, Nancy N. Taaffe

SUDDEN DEATH OF PETER TAAFFE.

Veteran Blacksmith Succumbs to Attack of Neuralgia of Heart Sunday Evening.

Peter Taaffe, the veteran blacksmith of this city, died quite suddenly at his home in this city about seven o’clock, Sunday evening, August 17, 1913, after suffering but a short time with neuralgia of the heart.

Mr. Taaffe had been in about his usual health, but had not been working for a week, on account of an injury to his foot, caused by a piece of iron falling on it. He was sitting in the yard at his home, conversing with members of his family, when the attack came. He lived but about a half an hour.

Mr. Taaffe was born near Boston, Mass., July 28, 1847. He came to Fairfield shortly before the war, and engaged in the blacksmith business, which, with the exception of two years spent in St. Louis, he continued to follow in this city to the day of his death. He was married to Miss Nancy Clark, in Big Mound township, about thirty-three years ago. The widow and two sons Will and John, living at home and a daughter Mrs. J. L. Gregg, of Arrington township survive. He has three brothers, George Taaffe, of Cherryville Kan., Richard, of Carthage, Mo. And William Taaffe, of this city, were present at the funeral.

The funeral took place Tuesday morning at ten o’clock, at the Catholic church, of which the deceased was a member. Rev. Father Goeltzhauser, of Flora, conducted the funeral rites in the presence of a crowd of friends and relatives.

The burial was in the new city cemetery.
