Mrs. Jane Cecilia (AUSTIN) ALEXANDER was born in Lincolnshire, England September 18, 1832 died September 5, 1912 at her home about one mile east of Fairfield IL after an illness of several months. She was united in marriage to Nicholas C. ALEXANDER in 1850. To this union were born fourteen children, four of whom survive, namely: Mrs. William HEAD (Mary ALEXANDER), Mrs. Charles CARTER (Bertha Jane ALEXANDER), Mrs. W. T. HODGES (Zerilda ALEXANDER), and Nicholas H. ALEXANDER.
There are seventeen Grandchildren and fourteen Great Grandchildren and a host of friends to mourn their loss. She was the last of a family of six and had resided on the same farm for sixty-two years. Her last serious illness that resulted in her death was of about ten days duration. For the past several years, Aunt Jane (as she was familiarly called) had been partially, or totally blind, having to depend upon those around her to conduct her from place to place.
Although she was blind, she enjoyed attending religious services as long as she was able to do so. She accepted Christ as her personal Savior when she was quite young and lived a constant Christian life. She was a member of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church for many years.
Funeral services were held from the residence on the farm at 9 o’clock
Saturday morning, September 7, conducted by her former Pastor, Reverend
Charles A. GALLOWAY of Lincoln IL, assisted by the Pastor of the Fairfield
C. P. Church Reverend W. C. LLOYD, in the presence of a large number of
sorrowing relatives and a host of sympathizing friends. Music was furnished
by Mr. and Mrs. Joe B…., D. C. DAY, and Misses Lon (Lou?) and Lea L……
Interment was in Koontz Cemetery.
