Mary E. Absher-Mayo was born February 19, 1861, near Mt. Erie, Illinois; died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Minnie Spriggs, in Geff, Illinois, May 20, 1927, age 66 years, 3 months and 1 day.

She was married to Isham B. Cole, September 23, 1883.  Her husband died July 24, 1884.  She was again united in marriage to Andrew J. Mayo, August 15th, 1886.  To this union ten children were born, Mrs. Minnie Spriggs, of Geff, Ill.; Mr. Rossie Mayo, Mrs. Dora Yoho, Mrs. Cora Shreve, of Pawnee, Ill., Mr. Noble Mayo, Miss Eva Mayo, Fairfield, Ill.; Mrs. Elsa Mattox, Chenoa, Ill.; three having died some years ago.  May 28th, 1914 her husband died and she was again left a widow.  She leave to mourn their loss, her seven children just mentioned and two step-children John Mayo and Mrs. Emma Dehart eleven grandchildren and two sisters Mrs. Ollie Doty and Mrs. Alice Wagner of Evansville, Ind., and many other relatives and friends.

She was converted to a belief in Christ in her girlhood days and on Sept. 12, 1920 she was baptized and placed her membership with the Baptist church at Oak Valley and was a faithful member until death.  She had been a sufferer of diesase for about nine years, but bore it patiently.

Funeral services were held on Sunday afternoon at 2:30 o’clock at Pleasant Grove church by Eld. Chas. L. Wood.  The burial was in the cemetery near the church.
