Marine Sam B. Wilson
Loses Life At Okinawa
Pfc. Sam B. Wilson of the U.S.M.C., son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Wilson, Route 3, lost his life in the battle of Okinawa, according to a War Department message received by his parents July 1.
He joined the Marines January 18, 1943, at Los Angeles, Calif. He received his training in Camp Elliott at San Diego `until May of the same year and then was shipped to the Pacific.
He had participated in three major campaigns in the Pacific Theatre. The first was that of Tarawa. Later at Siapan. Then was awarded the Purple Heart at Tinnian.
He would have been twenty-one years old this October and was expected to come home this July or August.
He has two other brothers in the service. Leo, of the 101st Airborne Division in Germany. Everett, at Camp Elliott with the Navy.
