CHARLES EDWARD GOODWIN
Eldest son of John W. and Susan E. Goodwin was born Oct. 28, 1884 and took his earthly departure from the home of his mother, now Mrs. L. S. McNeely on the morning of Dec. 21, 1917 at the early age of 33 years, 1 month and 21 days, father having preceded him some six years ago.
He was united in marriage with Mary A. Creighton, Feb. 19, 1908. To this union were born two promising sons, Carl and Joe who with their mother he leaves to fight the battle of life.
Charley is the first of a family of six to be called to try the realities of an unseen world. They being Mrs. James Clevinger, Fairfield; Mrs. Rebecca Felix, of Midland, S. Dak.; James Sherman, Van Meter, S. Dak.; Mrs. Emma Vaughn, Fairfield, and John Ramen still at home. The deceased was generous, noble hearted, an affectionate father and husband, a good neighbor and will be greatly missed by a loving wife and mother, brothers and sisters.
In early life he sought the saviour and many times during his last illness he expressed a willingness to be called to his Heavenly home. He died having an abiding faith in the redeeming love of a crucified and loving saviour.
The poet hath wisely said:
Amongst men whom men pronounce but ill
We find so much of goodness still
Amongst men whom men pronounce divine
We see so much of sin and blot
We hesitate to draw the line where
God hath not"
The funeral was conducted on Saturday morning at 10 o'clock at the McNeely home by Elder U. S. Johnson, and the burial was in the Maple Hill cemetery.
