Mrs. Robert Malone
Dies at Hospital
Mrs. Alta Malone, who for more than 40 years taught in Wayne county’s rural schools, died at 11:05 p.m. Friday in Memorial Hospital following a severe illness.
The 65-year-old Wayne county native was suffering from a malignancy and never recovered from a gall bladder surgery in July.
Was Teaching
She was going to continue to teach first and second grade at Berry Consolidated School this fall but could work only a couple of days before she became sick.
Mrs. Malone entered Memorial Hospital on Dec. 14 and remained there until her death.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday (today) at Nales Funeral home with burial in Lappin Cemetery near Geff. The Rev. Dale Warren officiated.
Born in 1905
She was born in Wayne county on Oct. 23, 1905, the daughter of Edgar and Susan (Galiher) Morris. She married Robert Malone in 1936 in Xenia.
For years, the couple lived on a farm west of Geff until about five years ago when they moved to Fairfield.
Mrs. Malone taught many years in the old one-room school houses, drawing upon her education from Southern Illinois University and McKendree College in Lebanon.
She was a member of the Reorganized Latter Day Saints church.
The Survivors
Surviving are her husband, Robert; two half-brothers, Gene Morris, of Fairfield; and Ed (Junior) Morris, of Fairfield; and a number of cousins.
