Ella M. Jones, 83, of Mt. Vernon, a native of Wayne County, died at 9:35 a.m. Friday at her home from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

She was a former employee of the Elgin State Hospital.

Services were conducted at 10:30 a.m,. Monday (today) at the Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon, with burial in the Bailey Cemetery near Wayne City.

Mrs. Jones was born in Wayne County June 3, 1896, the daughter of John and Emma (Bennett) Omar.

She was married in Johnsonville Jan.3, 1914 to Otta L. Jones

Mrs. Jones was a member of the Oak Grove General Baptist church, the Varnell Rebekah Lodge and the Eastern Star.

Surviving are her husband and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters.
