AMILDA  STINE

Amilda , youngest daughter of Joseph and Mary Skelton, was born near Buckeye church, in Lamard township, Wayne county, April 27, 1869. She was the last surviving member of one of the pioneer families of this community.

She grew to womanhood in the vicinity of her birth and remained the companion of her aged parents until their death. She then removed to St. Louis and made her home with her sister, Mrs. Thomas Morgan and for ten years was a valued employee of the Grand Leader Department store in that city.

In 1912 she was united in marriage with Edwin L. Morgan of Geff. This companion passed away in 1919 and September 27, 1922 she was united in marriage with E.D. Stine of Cisne, where she has resided since that time.

In her youth she confessed her faith in Christ and was baptized uniting with the Buckeye Christian church and throughout her life she has been a faithful and loyal worker in the Sunday School and Church in the vicinity where she resided. For many years she was a faithful and loyal supporter of the Geff Christian Church and since her removal to Cisne she has been equally as loyal to the Church and Sunday School at this place.. Her greatest delight was to teach and affectionately guide the lives of a group of young ladies and many of these, now grown women will recall her wise and Godly counsel, advice and assistance. It can be truly said of her that she did what she could for the good of her fellow man and the cause of the Christ, whom she loved most dearly.

She was active in all the affairs of the community, always being ready to give her time, strength and talent for any worthy cause. She was a member of the Cisne Woman’s Club, having served this Club in various official capacities. She was a loyal member of the Cisne Chapter O.E.S. and was never happier than when taking place of “Martha” in the ritualistic ceremony of this order and which place she always filled with dignity and grace. She was also a member of other community and social organizations and her presence in their various assemblies and always welcome and by her very nature she brought life and a kindly spirit into the group.

Never having been blessed with motherhood herself, yet she gave the tenderest mother’s care to a stepson and two stepdaughters, one of whom, Helen Morgan preceded her in death.

Her life was truly a living testimonial of Christian womanhood and her place in the home, the church and community will be hard to fill. She was a faithful and affectionate companion, daughter and sister and friend and neighbor that was beloved by all who knew her. “Aunt Millie” as she was best known by her friends and associates was a community character that was held in the highest esteem by old and young alike.

Following several months of failing health she entered peacefully into rest at her home in Cisne at five o’clock Sunday afternoon, December 19, 1943, age 74 years, 7 months and 22 days.

She is survived by her faithful companion, one step-son and wife, Mr. and Mrs. Earl M. Stine of Cisne, one step-daughter and husband, Mr. and Mrs. Ora I. Miller of Enid, Oklahoma, a brother-in-law, Thomas Morgan of St. Louis; a sister-in-law, Mrs. Lura Skelton of Hinsdale, and a host of nephews, nieces, and other relatives, who with a multitude of friends and neighbors will mourn her passing.
