Emma Kiger, daughter of Afrederick and Louisa Suter, was born in Jimtown, Ohio, November 8, 1867. When five years old she moved with her parents to West Virginia.
She was united in marriage with John A. Kiger, December 22, 1889. To this union ten children were born; two sons and two daughter preceded her in death. In 1907 the family moved to Wayne County, Illinois and located in their present home north of Johnsonville. In 1922 she and her husband united with the Methodist Church at Johnsonville, where she retained her membership until her passing. She had been a sufferer for some time and on account of her ill health she went to the home of her son Foster on February 10. On March 8 she was taken to the Effingham Hospital and on March 18, 1945 she passed peacefully away at the age of 77 years, 4 months and 9 days. She was one of a family of 15 children.
She leaves to mourn her passing, her faithful companion, four sons, Clarence of Cisne, Earl of Fairbury, Ill., Foster and Roy of Johnsonville; two daughters, Gertrude Basley of Los Angeles, California, and Mrs. Alice Watson of Cisne; one brother Henry Suter of Oklahoma; 24 grandchildren, three preceded her in death; one Lenard Kiger gave his life in the service of his country; six great grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.
Funeral service was conducted at the Methodist Church at Johnsonville, March 19, 1945 at 2:00 p.m. by Eld. Mac Ashbrook. Interment in Johnsonville cemetery.
