Sarifita Eikleberry was born in Brown county, Indiana, on July 30, 1860, the second child of Aaron and Elizabeth A. Robertson. She came with her parents to Illinois in 1873 and spent the remainder of her long life in this immediate vicinity.

She was united in marriage to Philip H. Eikeberry on June 30, 1892 at Jeffersonville by Elder D. Logan, and to this union were born four sons and five daughters. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1937; one infant son, a daughter, Laura A. Braley, in 1910and one son, Walter A., in 1931.

Besides her own family two grandchildren have been reared in her home, namely, Robert Max Jenkins and Betty Jean Cravens, whom she loved as her own and who have served to brighten her declining years.

Early in life she was converted and united with the Christian Church at Pleasant Grove, where her membership has always remained. She was baptised March 22, 1876.

She was essentially a home-loving woman, her entire life being devoted to her home and family.

She suffered a fall on Nov. 26, 1944, and has spent the last fourteen months of her life confined to her bed, where death came as a welcomed relief to her at 7:25 p.m., Jan. 27, 1946, at the advanced age of 85 years, five months and 27 days.

“Servant of God, well done,
Thy glorious warfare passed;
The battle fought, the victory won,
And Thou art crowned at last.”

Funeral services were conducted from the Pleasant Grove Church south of Cisne by Elder John F. Samford, Tuesday afternoon, Jan. 29, at two o’clock. Burial was in the nearby cemetery.
