Fildes Family, One Man's Family, Edward Fildes 1838-1890 1st edition,  printed in 1987.  Mrs. Marks died shortly after this book was printed.  Unfortunately, I do not know for certain what newspaper this was found in.   There is a copy in   The Hoffee Family genealogy book by Helen Fildes Walker.  I believe that is was from the Wayne County newspaper of 1987.

Former Mount Erie
Resident Dies

Mrs. Sylvia F. Marks, 65, of Taylorville, a former Mt. Erie resident, died at 1:13 a.m. Friday, Mar. 6., 1987 at St. Vincent Hospital in Taylorvilled following a lengthy illness.

According to family members she had been ill for a year and was hospitalized for the past month with a malignancy.

Services Held

Funeral services were held Sunday at 3 p.m. at the Brown Cumberland Presbyterian Church near Mt. Erie with Bro. H.A. Shelton officiating.  Burial followed in the Macedonia Cemetery near West Salem.

She was born June 6, 1891 in Elm River Township in Wayne County, the daughter of James and Margaret (Shelton) Fildes.  She married Woodrow Marks Mar. 12, 1938 in Morganfield, KY.  He preceded her in death in 1963.

Mrs. Marks was raised near Mt. Erie and attended grade and high schol, graduating from Fairfield High School in 1938.  After rearing her family on a farm near Olney, she attended Olney Central College and Eastern Illinois University in Charleston, receiving her degree in 1967.

She taught school for a few years in Middleton and had been employed by the State of Illinois Department of Revenue for the past 16 years.

She was a member of the Brown Cumberland Presbyterian Church and of MENSA, an intellectual organization.

The Survivors

Among survivors are three daughters, Mrs. Jim (Linda) Newcomb of Antioch, Sallie Marks of Springfield, and Mrs. Gary (Bettie) McClear of LaGrange Park; five sisters, Mrs. Charles (Lenora) Walker of Fairfield; Mrs Don (Mary) Ferrel of Ravenna, OH; Mrs. Robert (Helen) Walker of Urbana; Mrs Don (Ruth) Wisner of West Salem; and Mrs. Stella Pryor of Pekin; and four grandsons.

She was preceded in death by her husbnad, one son and one sister.
