Emily J. West daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John West, was born in Missouri, May 22, 1850; departed this life May 22, 1937 age 87 years.

She was united in marriage to I. W. Hodges some 69 years ago.  To this union twelve children were born:  William, May, Foster,

Logan, Mrs. Sarah Locke, Mrs. Hattie Harl, Mrs. Martha Smithall of whom have preceded her in death.  Her husband died August 26th, 1912.  Those living are:  John H. Hodges, Fairfield, Ill; Mrs. Mary Keener, Albion, Ill;  Mrs. Lucy Goodwin, Petersburg, Ind.;  Mrs. Cynthia Smith, Fairfield, Ill; Mrs. Margaret Goodwin, Fairfield, Ill.  She leaves 39 grandchildren, 75 great grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

She has been a member of the Methodist Church at Merriam for many years.  She has been a good neighbor and a friend in time of need.
