Funeral services for John E. Barnard were held at the Bailey church, Thursday morning by Rev. R. C. Butcher and Rev. Jesse Miller. Burial was in the cemetery nearby.
He had been in failing health several months and death occurred at his home in Berry township, Tuesday afternoon, August 24th, 1943 at the age of 78 years, six months and seven days.
John Edgeworth Barnard, son of John Henry and Elizabeth Barnard, was born at Booneville, Indiana, February 17, 1865. He came to Illinois at the age of twelve and located on a farm in what is now Berry township. He grew to manhood in this vicinity and has spent his life there.
In young manhood he professed his faith in Christ and united with the General Baptist church at Bailey and throughout his life he has been loyal to this faith.
He was united in marriage with Mary Jane Malone, October 7, 1889. Five children were born to this union, three of whom died in infancy.
He is survived by his faithful companion; one son, Ves; one daughter, Clara Henson, both of near Wayne City, and four grandchildren.
