Robert "Bob" O'Daniel
March 11, 1930 - October 18, 2018 (age 88)
88 year old Fairfield, illinois resident, Robert (Bob) O'Daniel passed away 2:42 p.m. Thursday, October 18, 2018 at Fairfield Memorial Hospital. Bob attended Ellery Grade School and graduated from Albion High School in 1948. He had help his father farm and continued farming throughout his life.
Bob served in the U.S. Army as helicopter mechanic at Ft. Riley, Kansas from 1952 to 1954.Bob was baptized and gave his life over to the Lord as a young man. He inherited his parent's generosity and gave freely of his time and resources to a number of organizations in the Fairfield area. This included primarily to the First Christian Church along with the Wayne County Soil and Water Conservation Service, Wabash Valley Association, Wayne County Shrine Club, Fairfield Elks Club, Wayne County Golf Course, the Golden Gate Drainage District and the Merriam Grade School Board.
In his later years, Bob enjoyed playing golf, spending winters in Florida, collecting antiqueTractors, and what his daughters referred to as "playing in the dirt" (i.e. cleaning ditches,Grading roads and filling low places in fields).
Bob was the son of Edward H. and Ola A. O'Daniel . He was born on March 11, 1930 in Henderson County, Kentucky. He married Mary Margaret Hoffee on September 23, 1951 in Fairfield, Ilinois.
Bob and Mary were Blessed with two daughters, Jill and Jacque, son-in-law Robert Langrand: two Gganddaugthers, Matta Lara and Lucretia Drew; 2 grandsons-in-laws, Jeremy Gray and Ben Vaupel. And finally, the apple of their eyes, 7 Great Grandchildren, Alex, Mareck andLincoln Vaupel and Skylar, Eli, Dane and Drake Gray. Several nieces and nephews and great nieces and great nephews
There will be a Memorial Service held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 20, 2018 at Fairfield First Christian Church.
Memorials may be made to Shriner's Children's Hospital (St. Louis), First Christian Church (Missions) or Oil Belt Campgrounds and will be accepted at Nale's Funeral Home in Fairfield, Illinois.
