William Thomas, Johnson, son of Ely and Elizabeth Johnson, was born in Wayne County Illinois January 3, 1857 and departed this life at the home of his son Sherman Johnson near Cisne Illinois, September 4, 1943.
Mr. Johnson grew to young manhood in this community and was united in marriage with Adda Elliott, also of this community who preceded him in death on February 25, 1901. To this union four children were born, Seymour and John of Remson, Iowa, Elmer of Colfax, Illinois and Sherman of Cisne. He leaves to mourn his passing, his four sons, ten grandchildren, three great grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.
He was well known and respected in this community, having spent a long and useful life here except for nine years spent in Tulsa, Okla.
Mr. Johnson was unfortunate in having suffered an affliction in youth which crippled him for life, but none ever heard him complain of this in all his years. He was a good neighbor and will long be remembered by many in this neighborhood for his kind help in sickness. He seemed to have a special talent in caring for the sick and when any of his neighbors were in need of this talent it was freely and cheerfully given. Many a family in this community knew his kind ministrations in the darkness of the time of their great trial.
Mr. Johnson lived a long and useful life, suffered his afflictions cheerfully and during his last days here was given every care by a kind son, daughter-in-law and grandchildren and passed away peacefully. What more can one ask of this life.
Funeral services were conducted at the Gunion church September 5, 1943, at 2:00 p.m. by Rev. C.G. Kramer and W.D. DeSelms. Interment in cemetery nearby.
