Alfred L. Gain, 77, of Decatur, died at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 4, 1996, at his home.
He was a native of Salem and a brother of Bob Gain, well-known Fairfield
oil man.
Mr. Gain was a retired welder.
A Christian burial mass will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Decatur, with burial in Graceland Cemetery there. There will be military rites.
Mr. Gain was born at Salem Feb. 9, 1919, the son of Walter R. and Katie Purdue Gain.
On Feb. 28, 1940. in St. Louis, he was married to Alma Kane. She passed away in 1991. Also preceding him in death were his parents, two sisters, one brother and a grandchild.
Mr. Gain was a World War II veteran, serving with distinction in General Patton's Army units. He served in North Africa and in Europe in that war and also in the Korean War. Mr. Gain served in the Salem National Guard and was a member of American Legion Post 105.
Surviving are a son, Frank Lynn Gain, of Bradenton, Fla.; two daughters,
Mrs. Kenneth (Rose M.), of Decatur; and Mrs. Ronald, (Jean M.) Weiscope,
of Forsythe; 10 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and four brothers
Robert (Bob) Gain, of Fairfield; Jean H. Gain, of Mobile, Ala.; Russell
Gain, of Williams, Ariz.; and
Walter Earl Gain of Kinmundy.
