Joseph Lester Cates, 81, of Carmi, died at 10:10 a.m. Wednesday at Wabash Christian Retirement Center, Carmi.

Mr. Cates was the father of Mrs. Jolene Hucker, of Fairfield. Mrs. Hucker is the wife of Rev. Larry Hucker.

Funeral services are pending at Kittinger-Fair Funeral Home at Carmi.

Surviving are two daughters, Mrs.  Jolene Hucker, of Fairfield; Mrs. Corene Harden, of Houston, Tx.; five sons, Gary and William Cates, both of Carmi; Charles Cates, of Rockwood; Larry and Calvin Cates, both of Logansport, Ind.; a sister, Mrs. Pansy Wilkins, of Mill Shoals; and 22 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
