A Cisne resident, Alfred R. Mitchell 69, a retired engineer, died at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 14, 1984, at Clay County hospital at Flora.
Mr. Mitchell was in ill health for the past year. He was admitted to the hospital Nov. 5 for treatment of lung problems and anemia.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Hosselton Funeral Home, of Cisne, with burial to follow in Bunker Cemetery near Rinard.
Visitation for family and friends will be conducted from 6-9 p.m. Friday.
Mr. Mitchell was born in Clay county Nov. 19, 1914, the son of John and Minnie (DeWeese) Mitchell.
He married the former Vernetta Gill at Flora Oct. 5, 1939.
Mr. Mitchell was a retired auxiliary engineer for Michigan-Wisconsin Pipeline Company at Woodstock. He retired in 1971 and moved with his family to Cisne, after being employed with the company for 17 years.
He was a member of Cisne United Methodist Church. He belonged to Cisne American Legion.
Mr. Mitchell was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army during the Battle of the Bulge which occurred in Belgium ana Luxembourg.
Surviving are his wife, Vernetta Mitchell, of Cisne; three sons, Gordon Mitchell, of Cisne, David Mitchell, of Woodstock, Dennis Mitchell, of Fairfield, three sisters, Mrs. Inez Davis, of Trenton, Mich.; Mrs. Mattie Nelson, of Woodstock; Miss Cleone Mitchell, of Clay City; three brothers, Ora Mitchell, of Clearwater, Fla., John and Tom Mitchell, both of Clay City; five grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were his parents, two brothers and two sisters.
