Retired Bluford Farmer, Parker Pierce, 84, Dies

Retired Bluford farmer, Parker Pierce, 84, died at 1 40 p.m. Wednesday Oct. 31, 1984, at Good Samaritan Hospital at Mt. Vernon.

He was the brother of Mrs Edna Halloway, of Wayne City, and Mrs. Elsie Coil, of Keenes.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Osborn Funeral Home Dix, with Rev. Olen Weatherford officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Vernon Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be conducted after 5 p.m. Friday at Dix.

Mr. Pierce was born in Jefferson County April 20, 1900, the son of George and Ida (Byars) Pierce.

He was married to the former Parthena Gilbert at Carbondale May 10, 1947.

He was a retired chairman of ASC office, a position which he held for 37 years.

Mr. Pierce was a member of the Dix Masonic Lodge.

Survivors include his wife, Parthena Pierce, of Bluford; two sons, Calvin and Wilbert "Wib" Pierce, both of Mt.  Vernon; two daughters, Mrs. Jhnell Pickett and Mrs. Clifford (Wilma) Campbell both of Mt. Vernon; a step-daughter Mrs. Donald (Doris) Lortie, of Warren N. J.; two sisters, Mrs Elsie Coil of Keenes; andMrs. Edna Halloway of Wayne City; five grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Preceding him in death were one sister and a brother.
