Mrs. Jessie Blackford, 87, of Fairfield died at 7:15 p.m. Thursday, Apr. 20, 1995 at the Wabash Christian Retirement Center in Carmi.

Mrs. Blackford, in declining health, had been at the nursing home for four years.  She had resided at the High Rise prior to the move to Carmi.

She worked at the Jacksonville State Hospital for several years, returning to Wayne County in 1970.

Funeral services were conducted from the Johnson Funeral Home Sunday afternoon, with Bro. Carroll Kakac officiating. Interment was in Maple Hill Cemetery.  Visitation was held from noon Sunday to the funeral hour.

She was born at Mill Shoals Feb. 25, 1908, the daughter of G. K. and
Lillie Baird Behymer.

On Sept. 6, 1926, she was married to Samuel Blackford. He passed away in February of 1985. Also preceding her in death were her parents, one daughter and one sister.

Mrs. Blackford was a member of
the Fairfield First Christian Church.                                     Ô‚è‚å‚

Surviving are two sons, George Blackford, of Fairfield; and C. Ray Blackford, of Mountain Top, Pa.; one daughter, Lillie Zimmerman, of Glendive, Montana; 12 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren.
