Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at Johnson Funeral Home in Fairfield for James P. Burkett, 79, of Anna, who died at 7:30 a.m. Thursday, Apr 20, 1995 at the VA Hospital in Marion.

Mr. Burkett was a disabled veteran.

Burial was in the veteran's section Maple Hill Cemetery.

Burkett was born to William and Alice Keeling Burkett on May 17, 1915 in Wayne County, and was a former Fairfield resident.

Preceding him in death were his parents, two sons and a daughter.

Mr. Burkett was a decorated veteran of World War II.  He was a member of the Fairfield VFW and American Legion.

Surviving are three sons, William of Bluford; Eugene of Indiana; and Terry of Texas; three daughters, Pauletta Pixley of Olney; Sharon Dunk of Ridgeway and Melody Burkett of Indiana; a step-daughter, Marlene Aldridge of Florida; two step-sons, Donnie Ridgley of Olney and Vernon Windle of Florida; 22 grandchildren, four step-grandchildren, and 15 great-grandchildren.
