Mrs. Hilda S. Martin, 66, of Carmi died at 11:16 a.m. Friday, Apr. 21, 1995, at her home.
She was a native of the Geff area but had lived in Carmi for many years. Mrs. Martin had served as chief deputy county clerk for White County for the past 18 years.
She was past chairperson of the White County Democratic Ladies organization
and past chairperson of the
White County Hospital board of directors.
Funeral rites were conducted Monday morning (today) from the Carmi First United Methodist Church, with Rev. Rick VanGiesen officiating. Burial was in Kuykendall Cemetery. The Campbell Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. visitation was held Sunday evening.
She was born at Geff Nov. 10, 1928 the daughter of Preston P. and Maude V. Williams Simmons.
On July 5, 1952, she was married to John A. Martin, he passed away Dec. 3, 1978. Also preceding her in death were her parents, one brother and one grandchild.
She was a member of the Carmi First United Methodist Church and the Beta Sigma Phi sorority.
Memorials may be made to the Carmi First United Methodist Church.
Surviving are two sons, Jack Martin and Mike Martin, both of Carmi; three daughters, Mrs. Rick (Lara) Carter and Mrs. Tony (Patricia) Watts, both of Carmi; and Mrs. James (Mary) Wakefield, of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; 13 grandchildren, two brothers, Irvin Simmons of Pittsburg, Ill.; and Max Simmons, of Hot Springs, Ark., and one sister, Alice Eckstein, of Morris.
