A former Wayne county resident Oakley E. Hunt, 75, of Bakersfield, Calif. died Apr. 2 in a Bakersfield hospital of cancer, following an operation for a blockage Mar. 15.
Mr. Hunt, who was a carpenter, was married to the late Alice Pauline Rains a Wayne countian, who died in 1966.
Mr. Hunt attended school in Fairfield and has many friends here.
Friends will recall that Oakley was a relative of Mr. and Mrs. Otis Harper who operated the Harper Grocery at the Midway on West Main Street here years ago.
Notice of his death and cancellation of his Press subscription came Wednesday from a neighbor, Imogene Little in Bakersfield.
Mr. Hunt and his family moved to California in 1938 with the Slover and Gregory families.
Funeral services were conducted in Bakersfield, Calif., with burial in that
Mr. Hunt was born in Wayne county, the son of Carl and Mertle Hunt. His mother was a beautician, who later married Otto Harper.
Mr. Hunt built his own home after moving to California. His half-brother, Loy Harper, operated Harper's Skating Rink in Fairfield for many years.
Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Doris Little, of Las Vegas. Nev.; a half brother, Loy Harper, of Frankfurt, Ky. and two grandsons.
He was preceded in death by both of his parents and his wife.
