Funeral services for Mrs. Sam (Colena) M. Matthews, 67, of Fairfield, were held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Johnson Funeral Home with Rev. H. H. Mayberry officiating. Burial followed in Thomason Cemetery at Wayne City.

Mrs. Matthews died at 9:40 a.m., Friday, Sept. 27, 1985, in Fairfield following a car-truck accident. Details of the accident appear elsewhere in today's Press.

Born in Sims, July 22, 1918, Mrs. Matthews was the daughter of Pearlie and Alice Belangee Schell.

She married Sam Matthews at Cape Girardeau, Mo., July 27, 1942. Mrs. Matthews was a housewife and homemaker. She was formerly employed for eight years as a cook with Fairfield Memorial Hospital.

Mrs. Matthews was a member of Keenes Missionary Baptist Church.

She is survived by her husband, Sam Matthews, of Fairfield; three sons, Clifford Matthews and Don Richards, both of Fairfield; and Raymond Matthews, of North Hollywood, Calif.; one daughter, Mrs. David (Treva) Jackson, of Fairfield, three sisters, Mrs. Garold (Maxine) Cowan, of Keenes; Mrs. Lorene Richards, of Keenes, and Mrs. Geraldine Buchanan, of Tolona; and nine grandchildren.

Preceding her in death were a son, Gilbert Larry Matthews, two brothers and one sister.
