Mrs. Emma Clarice Johnston, 86, of Lawrenceville, a former Fairfield and Cisne resident, died at 7:15 a.m. Friday, Aug. 30, 1985, at the United Methodist Village at Lawrenceville.
Mrs. Johnston was the widow of Rev. Charles B. Johnston. She was the step-mother of Kenny Johnston and Esther Davis, both of Fairfield. Mrs. Johnston resided in the village for the past 14 years.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Ellen Moore United Methodist Church with Rev. Dick Sullens officiating. Burial was in Maple Hill Cemetery. Johnson Funeral Home handled the arrangements.
Mrs. Johnston was born south of Wayne City, Jan. 24, 1899, the daughter of Harmon and Martha Rebecca Hargrave Richards.
She married Charles Johnston, Nov. 4, 1923. They lived in Fairfield
until 1924 when Rev. Johnston entered the Methodist ministry. In the following
years, she made a home for her family at pastorates at Mt. Erie, Claremont,
Calhoun, Allendale, Xenia, Flat Rock, Noble, Medora, Salem, Sesser, Cisne
and Brighton.
Following her husband's death in 1962, Mrs. Johnston moved back to
Fairfield where she lived until moving to the United Methodist village.
Mrs. Johnston was a member of Ellen Moore United Methodist Church.
She is survived by two step-children, Charles Kenneth Johnston and Esther Davis, both of Fairfield; one son, Stanley Johnston, of Springfield; three daughters, Evelyn Koertge, of Mulberry Grove; Rev. David (Mary Lois) Hilton, of Moorehead, Ky. Rev. Ted (Ruth Ann) Cox, of Basin, Wyo.; two sisters, Mrs. Jeanette Harrison, of Fairfield; and Mrs. Iva Rogers, of Cisne, 14 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.
