A former Pond Creek area resident Mrs. Martha Elizabeth Nelson, 73, of Mt. Vernon, died at 10:58 a.m. Tuesday Oct. 1, 1985, at Good Samaritan Hospital Mt. Vernon.
Mrs. Nelson was the widow of farmer Theodore "Buck" Nelson, and mother of Robert Nelson, of Fairfield.
Funeral services were conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday (today) at N@les Funeral Home with Rev. Marvin Bennett officiating. Interment followed in Westwood Cemetery at Shawneetown.
Mrs. Nelson was born May 21, 1912, at Rosiclare, the daughter of Jesse and Sara Bramlet Lowe.
In 1928, she married Theodore Nelson at Shawneetown. Mr. Nelson preceded her in death in 1980. The Nelsons moved to the Pond Creek area in 1954 from West Salem. In 1975, the couple moved to Mt. Vernon after retiring from farming.
Mrs. Nelson followed the General Baptist faith.
She is survived by four sons, Robert Nelson, of Fairfield; Jesse Nelson, of Evansville, Ind.; Jerry Nelson, of Abilene, Kan.; and Mike Nelson, of Mt. Vernon; two daughters, Mrs. Paul (Lena) Gibson, of Olney; and Mrs. Jack (Sharon) Fain, of Laughton, Okla.; two sisters, Mrs. Jessie (Mildred) Oldham and Rev. James (Mary) Riley, both of Shawneetown; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Preceding her in death were her husband and four infant children.
